I’ve had a full-on obsession with red lips these last couple of months & today I’m reviewing a lovely red-toned lip gloss by Lotus Herbals.
Though I don’t restrict myself to natural or eco-friendly products, I definitely gravitate toward them. Lotus Herbals is a natural company & this Purestay Lip Gloss in Rose Bud* is  is 100% vegetarian & formulated without the use of any preservatives, which is a huge plus for me.
What they say: Purestay™ Lip Gloss is a lightweight, high-shine, perfectly pigmented preservative free lip gloss with rich, long lasting colour and nourishing shine that creates the appearance of fuller lips.

The lip gloss comes in a rectangular plastic tube with a rose gold toned metallic lid. I found that this tube is very similar to the Maybelline Colorsensational High Shine Gloss, at least dimension-wise (& I’ve had this Lotus gloss since before the Maybelline one even launched, if that matters).
The applicator is a regular doe foot one, found on 99% of lip glosses. I did notice something else – the ingredient list is completely absent from the box & the tube. The website lists the active ingredients as Evening Primrose Oil, Grape Seed Oil and Vitamin E.

The color is a sort of brick red with that leans slightly towards orange. Since it has warm undertones, it’ll easily suit most Indian skin tones. I always struggle with making sure my swatches are properly indicative of the product color, here I found that the hand swatch above is a bit more accurate than the lip swatch below (on the lip swatch it appears to be a bit pink-toned, & it’s really not).

I’m not a lip gloss girl (I was one in my teens, but then I discovered lipstick!) I don’t mind the glossy finish at all, but I dislike the sheer color & low staying power that most glosses have. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the intensity of this color. It’s definitely not sheer. This is one regular swipe – you can wear it a bit sheerer, if you prefer or build it up to a lovely full-intensity brick red.
As I’ve mentioned at the top of this post, red is currently my favorite lip color, but this would be a great starting point even for girls who are slightly afraid to sport it.
When I apply it, my lips feel quite comfy. It is ever so slightly sticky (as is every other lip gloss I’ve tried in my life, that’s just how they are!) but nothing annoying. The staying power is decent. It’ll last a maybe two hours without a meal. It’s not transfer proof though, so it will appear on tea cups & such.
Price: ₹395 for 8gms.
Overall the Lotus Herbals Purestay Lip Gloss in Rose Bud is a lovely brick red lip gloss with good color payoff. It’s also natural & formulated without any preservatives. I’d recommend this if you like lip gloss, or are looking to try red lipstick but scared to go full-on at once or you’re looking for a red that’s more office appropriate.

love,
Magali
