Maybelline is one of my favorite brands ever for many reasons. For starters, they bring out a lot of cool things at very reasonable prices & availability is never an issue too. One of my personal favorite products is the Maybelline Clear Glow BB Stick (which recently won the best bb cream / tinted moisturiser award at the Elle Beauty Awards 2013… oh & did I mention that Maybelline took home the top honor as well that night?) And just a month ago they launched the Maybelline Cheeky Glow blush too, another great product. Today I’m talking about their latest release, nail polishes!
Maybelline has a brand new line of nail polishes in India to feed my intense nail obsession. The new Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish has a whooping 40 shades at a very affordable price point & ever since their release the entire blogosphere, twittersphere & instragramsphere(?) has been abuzz. I tested two colors, Kiss-me-Pink {003}* & Mint Mojito {404}*
Are they worth the hype? Read on to know!
What they say: Stay right on trend from your tips to your toes with new Maybelline Color Show. Our gel based formula with color popping pigments, comes in 40 bold, super stylish shades that look great on nails. So go on, mix, match and make the most of color.
Price: ₹75 for 6ml
The 40 colors in this range come in a variety of different finishes. Of the two I have, Kiss-me-Pink is a duochrome while Mint Mojito is creme. Color wise, Kiss-me-Pink is a bold cerise with a subtle duo-chrome (or oil-slick… think petrol spilled in water) that reflects a cool blue. Mint Mojito is a lovely warm green cream. The name itself is a tad misleading… it’s may reflect the color of mint leaves but it’s not a mint as nail polish lovers know. It reminds me of a green smoothie!
Despite being a fan of Maybelline I was a little sceptical about these. Who sells a nail polish for 75 bucks, right? So I kept my expectations in check accordingly, & I was so surprised by the outcome!
The polishes are very easy to apply & give opaque coverage in just two coats. Consistency wise, the green polish is a touch thicker than I prefer but it’s not gloopy or hard to work with. The pink is thinner but that doesn’t affect the color payoff.
Although these babies don’t promise to be ‘quick drying’ I find that they dry quite quickly. A lot of polishes, even more expensive ones sometimes take too long to dry & frankly who has time for that? I always end up ruining my nails before they dry, but not in this case! The first coat dried in a minute, the second took a bit longer. And after a topcoat they were completely sealed, I didn’t get any dents on stains on the polish.
And I know what you’re thinking about now… wear time! On the second day after applying these I had one chip in the corner of my middle finger. Just one, & I’m not sure how I got in. In subsequent days, there was minor normal tip wear but no chipping at all. I took it off four days later because I wanted a change.

I thought of trying some nail art with this but I really like solid color manicures, so I opted for an accent nail! But instead of just the ring finger being a different color I opted to match the thumb as well!
PS- I know my nail length is nothing special right now but I’m quite proud of it. A nail polish addiction is the best way to stop biting your nails.
I know in the end this post turned out to be a complete rave but I can’t help it, I think these are really nice! At the price, I cannot fault them one bit! I’m really into metallics right now so I’m going to buy the gold & silver polishes which are perfect for the festive season.
If you’re into nail polish at all you should try these. If you’re not, well try one & I’m quite sure you’ll be hooked!
love,
Magali
