Sunburn, Asia’s biggest music festival held it’s 9th edition over 4 days at Vagator, Goa. It was made even more stylish thanks to it’s association with fbb, India’s coolest youth fashion brand. I’d been wanting to go to Sunburn since I started college & this time I got to go along with fbb to experience & chronicle it all.

It All Started with a Road Trip

In the days leading up to Sunburn, fbb held an an innovative contest – they were looking to create a crowdsourced video for their #fREAKINbLOODYbRILLIANT anthem. You could submit your craziest entries either at an fbb store or on their facebook page & the best ones would win passes to Sunburn as well as a ride on the pimped out fbb bus. Oh wait, there’s more – Raghu & Rajeev (of Roadies & Splitsvilla fame) would be coming along!

So that’s where my journey began on the morning of boxing day. The bus was gorgeous (outside & inside!) & got us a lot of attention on our journey from other vehicles. I was a little apprehensive when Raghu & Rajiv joined us, (considering Raghu’s angry image) but they were both chill dudes, humble & funny, they shook our hands & talked about their childhood & youth. Both of them were stylish in their own distinctive ways, Rajiv a bit more maybe. We stopped for lunch at a nice hotel & later stopped for dinner at a dhaba style place by the highway. We spent our time singing, chatting & basically getting pumped for Sunburn – I did it by listening to loads of KYGO. I’ve always liked road trips & this was one of my most fun, memorable ones yet! We reached Goa the next morning – Sunburn was just a few hours away.

The Festival Vibe

After settling in, showering & all that jazz, it was time to go to Sunburn. And I was there everyday, from early evening to midnight. Sunburn 2016 took place at a new location, Vagator instead of Candolim; but I didn’t really have anything to compare it to as it was my first one. The ground was massive, a bit rocky in some parts but mostly nice to navigate. I loved getting there early & one of my favorite things to do was to grab an ice cream & sit on the hill (with the Live. Love. Dance sign) & eat an ice cream, it even had a nice view of the sea. Those quiet moments were lovely before the main sets began & the atmosphere changed to one huge party!

The fbb stall

fbb, the fashion hub of India, has been the face of affordable fashion destinations in India since 2008. As the style partner of Sunburn, their mission was simple – Make Sunburn Thoda Aur Stylish. They had merchandise on sale as well as some fun activities that differed daily. There was a digital graffiti wall, flipbooks & my personal favorite, cheeky speech bubble balloons! The photobooth was a constant & a huge hit! Peopled lined up to grab their favorite props & do their craziest poses.

Sunburn Style

I’ve always been fascinated by music festival fashion & have done a couple of posts about it earlier. I firmly believe that when it comes to a music festival, style is important but not your primary lookout. Enjoying the music, being comfortable, dancing all evening are the most important things & your style should just compliment that. I kept my attire simple, tshirts & three fourth joggers, slip dresses & my ever present denim jacket as it can get a bit nippy after sundown. Let’s not forget – Sunglasses for the hot evenings & comfortable shoes (all festivals have a lot of walking, standing & more walking involved!) & a nice backpack to put all my extra stuff in.

After all the time I spent there I hoped that I would be able to pin down the Sunburn Style Statement in some way but alas it was so difficult. I saw so many different people wearing everything from crop tops & hot shorts to jeans & tees, lots of denim & flowly silhouettes, gladiators etc. In the end I realized that it’s impossible to try & pin down Sunburn style to just one thing, the people that come to Sunburn are diverse, stylish & crazy, united by their love of EDM. The Acts

Sunburn 2015 had an amazing lineup with some of the biggest names in EDM like Martin Garrix, Kshmr & Feliz Jaehn.

My favorite act was KYGO. I discovered him in December 2014 & exactly a year later I got to see him live, my mind is still blown by that fact! I also loved David Guetta’s set. When he played When Love Takes Over, you can bet I was screaming at the top of my lungs!
